Handles are part of the mystique of this quietly aloof
jar. There is a particular gift that Melvin has of "locating" the zone
lines perfectly on the canvas of the vessel. This innovative and experimental form
has a strangely timeless quality that is both ancient and modern at once. Melvin began experimenting with the idea of handles in the 60's and
has been refining his technique ever since. Here he has acheived a peaceful form
harkening back to an era of utilitarianism. |
